MAC spoofing program for iPaqs / ORiNOCO

I've been lurking for a few weeks now, and I saw that a few people wanted to know how to spoof their MAC address. I was bored tonight so I downloaded the Embedded Toolkit and the PPC2002 SDK. I whipped up a quick and dirty MAC spoofer using the reg hacks I saw in another post. Anyway, feel free to try it out, but this is definitely still a beta program. It worked fine on my iPaq but I make no guarantees for anyone else, and I take no responsibility for any damages, etc...

The program is at:

http://divideby0.dynu.com/MACspoof-0.1.zip

please let me know if you have any comments / suggestions / bug reports / etc.

Thanks,
J. Adam Sowers

Nice!

Hey divideby0, did you get the idea from the EFNET channel? :-)

I'm working on the same thing, but if you're on it already I'll switch to other stuff...

All the best,

Mother

how difficult is it to create it for MIPS? Isn't it just a matter of recompiling it and telling it is MIPS and not ARM?

Either way, thanks for the util. I may have to buy that @migo FAST now...

thanks for the feedback!

Mother, I really got the idea from another post that had the actual values in the registry to change but I do seem to remember the channel having a discussion about this...

Langly, thanks for trying it on the @migo! I'm glad that it works on more than just the iPaq. As a side note, does the @migo have PPC 2002 or did it work in PPC 2000?

McHale, I'm really not sure about the MIPS question... I can try installing the SDK for your WinCE device and recompile, but you'll have to test it for me since I don't have a MIPS device. Let me know if you want me to try it.

thanks everyone!

More than happy to test it for you. I have a Casio E-115 (so the 100, 105, 115, 125, and EM-500 would be the same).

Let me know.

thanks...

oops. I forgot to mention. All the MIPS devices are running CE 3.0.

MIPS test release

I installed the PPC SDK and compiled an edition for the MIPS processor... as I don't have a MIPS PPC, this should be considered a very early beta. Please let me know if it works or not... I'm assuming that the orinoco software installs in the same place in the registry which may or may not be a correct assumption.

Thanks,

Adam

once again, a test version only. I take no responsibility for loss of data, etc, etc. Good luck!

hey, thanks for the ultra-fast turn around.

I just tried installing it and I get the following error:

"Failed to copy file

from c:\macspoof.ppc.Mips 4000 (4K) v3.00.cab
to: C:\Program Files\MAC spoof\macspoof.ppc.Mips 4000 (4K) v3.00.cab"

After hitting OK it ends the process.

I'm running XP. I have tried installing it from different drives and folders and it makes no difference.

Any idea?

Is there a way to manually install it?

OK.

Before someone slaps me in the head, I remembered AFTER I posted.

I copied the cab file to the PPC and double clicked it and it installed fine (however, many files wanted to overwrite other files that were the same date but an hour newer). I told it not to and it installed successfully.

ANYWAY,

I feel a little inferior with it saying it is an iPAQ utility.

I have comments and stupid questions:

I was able to change the MAC address and set it. YAY!!!!!

Is there a way for the software to read from the card and display the REAL MAC address regardless of what the registry says?

Anyway, thanks man. This works great!!!!

I have an easter basket on it's way to your door...

Yeah, sorry about the iPaq thing. I didn't mean to be 'iPaq-centric' but I didn't think to change it. This hopefully means that the program should be available in all PPC and PPC2002 flavors soon.
I was thinking about the hardware MAC issue myself, I'll check into it and see if it's feasible... look for v0.2 soon!

thanks again for the updates,
Adam

hey... I was just kidding ya. The fact is, IT WORKS. It could have said "Palm Based" for all I care (heaven forbid)!

The only reason I ask about the REAL MAC address is I have one AP set to accept connection by MAC address. It'd be real nice if there was a visual that always showed the real MAC address and you had a button to revert to it if needed.

But hey! I'm not picky. I can enter it by hand if it's not possible...

thanks again for making this available to us lowly 3.0 MIPS early adopters. I was so sure MIPS was the way to go and StrongArm and SH3 would be dead by now. Boy was *I* wrong!

Anyone know the reg-strings that hold the MAC for Cisco cards on PPC ?
