PPC 2003 and MS .04

/n00b mode
I just upgraded my 5455 to PPC 2003 and I have some questions for those of you who are more familiar with PPC 2003.

Is there a way to disable the Zero Config? (answers in english please )

Here is what I am experiencing using the internal WiFi on my 5455....

When I turn on the internal WLAN it auto associates to my home AP. If I start up ministumbler it will not pick up any other AP's except mine, obviously because the ipaq is associated to it.

The onlyway I can get ministumbler to work correctly is if I start up the WLAN somewhere where there is no AP's the damn thing will auto associate too.

Ministumbler seems to be able to turn off the zero cofig when started up and the WLAN isn't already associated to an AP. Is there not a way to manualy turn off the zero config?

Additionally, you might try simply clearing (disabling) the Automatically connect to non-preferred networks checkbox. Delete any unwanted connections after clearing the checkbox. See the attached image from my iPAQ 5555...

Thanks Sooner Al, I will look into those links. Also, I do not have the "Automatically connect to non-preferred networks" check box checked.

I just can't believe no one else finds this a problem??? This may actually force me to go back to PPC2002.

Actually you can switch to only computer-computer networks. When you are done go back.

Yes I know you can toggle between ad-hoc and access point, but that is not the problem.

The problem is you can not physically set a "blank" SSID configuration account while in proximity of an open access point because of the auto association feature built into PPC 2003 which thus far I can't figure out how to turn off.

This means that I have to start Ministumbler while not in proximity of an associable AP otherwise Ministumbler will not pick up other AP's because the iPAQ is associated to an AP.

here's in the info in that first link:

Quote:
I have successfully disabled WZC on my Ipaq 4150 by removing the
following registry key.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\ZeroConfig]
"Prefix"="ZCF"
"Dll"="WZCSVC.dll"
"Index"=dword:1
"Order"=dword:4
a small app that deletes the reg key and recreates the reg key would be really sweet for this type of thing.

Your wish is my command:
http://www.cent-com.com/ben/wp-content/WZCConfig.CAB

WARNING: I made this small utility for my own use. All it does is remove/recreate the registry key you pointed to. I have only tested it briefly on my ipaq 4150 with WM2003 and the 1.1 version of the .NET compact framework. Use it at your own discretion.

You need to do a soft reset after enabling/disabling the settings.

Cheers,
Ben Gracewood.
