Look, I get tired of all these people crying about this card and that card not working! Go out and spend 75 or so on the Lucent and leave Marius alone. He has done a damn good job with this tool. He has given it out for free. So if you REALLy want support for every card on the planet, maybe you could send him some money to develope it!

the problem is that there are e.g. no hermes based compact flash cards on the marked :-(
ok marius did a great job but the programmer of apsnife did allready offer support to implement prism 2 into netstumbler. so itīs just a question of time that there will be a version with that function and i hope that will be asap. |

Yup
Thanks AssetBurned.
He's right, Cryrerier. If you take a look at http://www.freenetworks.de.vu/wlan-cards/cf-wlan.html , you'll see that there are no Hermes cards, exactly 2 Spectrum24 CF cards, and other 20 are Prism. So yes, I really do wish for support for "every card on the planet." Marius has done a commendable job thus far. I know he's not profiting from this venture, so appreciate all the time he's donated to the project already. All I'm doing is expressing my desire to the entire community for support for a very common chipset. If there's something else I can do to help expedite this, great... I'm all ears. |

I agree
Well, If people don't "cry" how does he know what people want. I agree the app is awesome and he did a good job. I have an $119 ornoco card that this works with that is not the issue. the issue is thet the ornoco in my ipaq is huge with the sleve and extra batt. The Symbol cad is much smaller and lasts longer on a batt. I also get better range out of the symbol card. As a result my Ornoco card sits at home in a draw and my symbol card is what I walk around with.
So I think that most of us are saying is we like the product, we realise the oter card you had already devloped in and therefore was the first campatable card out, but the reason we are using this in an PDA is because size matters. Again good work. |

What about the Buffalo ?
They previously used the Lucent (Hermes ?) chipset for their products, does someone know for sure that they've switched to Prism for the CD Card ? Seems logical when you look at the competition I guess !
I for one don't mind carrying my iPaq around with the PCMCIA sleeve and the Lucent card. As for battery life, remember that the PCMCIA pack has an extra battery ! |

Buffalo Tech Mail
Hi Mike,
Our CF card has Intersil Prism chipset. Let me know if you have other questions or concerns. thanks...
...so it seems they've changed chipset suppliers. Probably means that there's currently no "Lucent/Hermes" solution ready for release.
A bit of a shame (for Netstumblers of course) but also because I've always found the Lucent/Hermes cards to be easier to configure and more sensitive, but maybe that's just me ! |
