Symbol's CF Is To Expensive
I like what's going on and far be it for me to complain but why pick the most expensive CF card as the first to support? I've been pricing CF cards out and the Symbol is like $175 while most are $80-120. If anyone knows where to get the Symbol card for a decent price let me know.

147 is the cheapest I've seen and you get a 5% discount if you use PayPal.
BUT... If I were you, I wouldn't buy it. There's a CF 802.11b card coming out that uses the Hermes Chipset here shortly. Do you need it in a hurry? -Mc |

No I don't need it in a hurry, it's still not support yet but it's suppose to be the first. Who makes the CF card that's coming out with the Hermes chip set?
Thanks all for the price list, $147 is by far the cheapest I've seen. |

147 is the cheapest. If you order from them by PayPal, they will give you 5% off. Winning Images doesn't always have the cheapest prices (they do on this though) but they give unbelievable tech support from what I've seen. Check out the wireless forum on PocketPCPassion.com if you're curious. They help everyone out all the time.
As for as the Hermes CF card, I can't give any details on it due to one of them ND Agreement thingies... BUT, there is one coming out that's CF and it will guarenteed work with the current version of MiniStumbler. No idea on pricing. No idea on if it will have an external antenna jack. No idea on anything. BUT... it's Hermes and CF. -Mc |

Maybe becuase it's a favorite among PocketPC users. With a Type I form factor, it fits just about any device and it's pretty good as far as power consumption is concerned.
Support usually begins with the favorites and ends with the lesser models. |

Hermes CF
Hi,
I posted in hardware concerning an adapter to allow the use of a regular PCMCIA card in a CF Type 1 socket. I ordered an adapter from the company specified (www.accurite.com) and expect it within a week or so. The card has an accessory 5vdc AC adapter in case the CF device only feeds 3.3v and the cards require 5v. If you get a silver card for $50-$70 (or if you have a spare) and get the adapter for $65, that gives you a lot of flexibility. Plus, the Enterasys website has WinCE drivers for the CSIBD-AA card (identical to Orinoco Silver), so drivers are less likely to be a crapshoot. My cards do work in my Jornada690 (not palm-sized...like a mini-laptop with hinged screen...uses CE 2.x) with the Enterasys drivers, unfortunately MiniStumbler doesn't work on 2.x. Concerning compatability between CF and PCMCIA, the pinouts correlate with the exception of one memory line on CF and the additional addressing available on 68-pin PCMCIA as opposed to 50-pin CF. As an I/O card, there should be absolutely no problem with the electrical connections. I'll keep you posted! |
