It seems most threads asking for info on CE go unanswered here. I searched the forums and nada! Got a new Viewsonic PDA with CE 3.00 on it. Anyone know whether this will work with Mini-NS??
I guess I could wait for the Viewsonic Tablet with W2K to show up but it would be sweet if the PDA could do the job now. The large touchscreen on the PDA would be super for W-driving.

ViewPad 1000
SB
Do you know if the ViewPad 1000 has a port for an external antenna? From the specs I have looked at it doesn't appear so, but I haven't seen the tablet in person yet to know for sure. As for if it will work on CE, the only reference I know of is in the FAQ on the main section of the NetStumbler Site site where the question was asked: Q: Will this be ported to Windows CE? A: If you send me a suitable system, I'll be happy to port it at my leisure (and return the unit to you!).

Hmm... It has an ARM processor and a type II PC card slot so you can always stick any PC card-based wireless nic you want in there. I'm sure Ministumbler will run on it as it is an arm processor. It's a free download so there's no harm in trying.

Allow me to clarify
The Viewsonic PDA is an ARM processor, but the ViewPad 1000 is a Celeron 800MHz running W2K Pro, so it will have to be NS instead of MS, but yes the PCCARD slot would solve that problem, was just hoping to be able to utilize the built in 802.11b mini PCI rather than scrap it and use a card.

We are evaluating these devices for purchase. My "evaluation" of the 1000 will require installing NS on it. ![]()

I woudl say its a 100% chance that you will need to open the unit and add a pigtail of some kind to allow for ext ent connections.
If you wish to use the internal Card (and the card is Heremes Based) then internally you will either have a PCCARD with the standard LUCENT pigtail connections to the internal antenna. Otherwise it will be a MINIPCI card with the Snap on Button Connectors, which are not too complicated to remove but getting a pigtail to ext connector will be hard as hell... here is a link to soem info I foudn on the lucent type care most likely to be used... http://forums.netstumbler.com/showth...ight=connector Second Post in is the info...

The specs on the 1000 confirms it is the MiniPCI card.
Regarding the question on CE 3.0 again, Microsoft's Site lists Windows CE 3.0 as being Pocket PC. Linc was there a version of CE 3.0 released that wasn't Pocket PC (i.e. using the Pocekt PC extensions)?

i thought the miniPCI card was on the XP tablet...so one would run NS on it instead.

Thread Recap
Ok, recap for clarity time.
Pocket PC is considered WinCE 3.0, but not all WinCE 3.0 PDA's are Pocket PCs. Anything I miss?
