Original 802.11 was I think only 2Mbit per second. If you slow all of the systems down to that speed, they should be able to talk.

Blackbox makes (made?) an 802.11 product and it is not visible with Netstumbler so I would surmise that any of these products are not 802.11b compatible.

The 802.11 spec covers both FHSS & DSSS products, whilst the 802.11b spec is DSSS only. The 802.11 DSSS products should be compatible with 802.11b gear - but at 2 Mbps

CC, buying a 802.11b PCMCIA card and plugging it into that AP will upgrade it to work with 802.11b infrastructure no problem.

I had no problems connecting to my Planet AP (802.11) with my trueMobile card at 2Mbs, netstumbler finds the AP no problems (from the TrueMobile). Dont know if that helps.

PS. There was a 1Mbs 802.11 standard , that could be your problem.
