802.11g USB adapter
I've looked around and maybe completely nuts but I haven't found a 802.11g USB adapter.
Does anyone know a vendor that sells one? It would be nice if it has the form factor of the Linksys WPC12. |

Cool, accton makes one so others are soon to follow it looks like its Prism based. Linksys' card seems to have good reviews in this forum and its based on the Broadcom chipset. |

Unless I misunderstand the limits of the USB standard, you can't do more than 802.11b under USB 1.0 because the throughput won't support it. USB 2.0 should be able to handle 802.11g, but manufacturers may be hanging back until USB 2.0 ports are present on more machines. Even my current Dell doesn't have one, and it's barely a year old.
The real value in USB adapters to me is that the cable gives you adapter mobility with no loss of signal, so something like the WUSB12, while cool as hell, seems like it's wasting USB's big advantage. I'll certainly buy a USB g adapter (on a cable) once I find one. BTW, while poking around Linksys I see that the WUSB11 has shed yet another skin: http://www.linksys.com/Products/prod...id=22&prid=174 This looks nothing like the unit I have, which was different from the one a friend showed me earlier. --73-- --Novilio |

I have a pretty specific application, which are a couple of SFF servers for trade shows. I want them to be idiot proof for setup so I don't have to be around for booth setup (my company is small and young, so I end up doing this kinda stuff).
I have a couple of the WUSB12 already and they are kinda nice because I just pack the servers into their pelican cases with the dongles still in place. The fewer things people have to plug in, the better I just got a WRT54 G that I've been playing with, so I thought it would be nice to a G dongle. BTW, I have one of the earlier WUSB11 versions and its a piece of junk. It runs fine for about 30 minutes, then it starts dropping the signal. |

There have been several releases of the WUSB11--at least five that I've heard of. I guess you should never buy v1.0 of anything! --73-- --Novilio |
