8470-WD vs. LMC352
Newbie looking to buy a card…

Did a bit of online research and have narrowed the selection down to the 8470-WD and the LMC352…

Would like any feedback you may have regarding these two units and/or which one you might prefer…

I am hoping to use them to learn a bit more about wireless in general along with different wireless programs such as NS, air snort, kismet, and so on…

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated…

If you are looking to use it with NS, airsnort and Kismet, the ORiNOCO 8470-WD is known as the DORK card, and isn't totally supported natively in NS.
Get a ORiNOCO Classic Gold card (8410-WD) instead, if you need proper NS support.

If you absolutely need 802.11a or 802.11g support, look for any card based on the Atheros chipset. Atheros chipset is partly supported natively in NS (see caveats in the Cards with problems thread), and has a fairly stable Atheros driver available on the Linux platform, which is supported by Kismet. Some revisions (if not all) of the Proxim ORiNOCO 8470-WD is afair Atheros based, but any Atheros based card would do.
