Airoha's "AirLink" card and AP/Router
Hi,
I saw that Fry's Electronics advertices today a special deal of brandname Airlink hardware: One is told to be "Wireles-G Cardbus Adapter" for $ 34.99, another is "Wireless-B Router" for $ 49.99. I am planning to buy both a new AP/router for my home network, and also a PC card which may be used for ordinary networking (with 128 bit encryption!) and which I may use for stumbling, too. Does anybody know if this stuff is of good quality? Specifically, if these products are reliable, if the Cardbus Adapter is "stumbling-friendly" and hast 128 bit encryption, and if the router has the necessary basic features, such as 128bit encryption, NAT, Universal PnP, basic port filtering and port forwarding. Btw now I have a LinkSys box, and if I could get another to this price, I would be happy.... I need to set up another location and another router with a shoestring budget. Any info about similar or better deals specially for a LinkSys would be appreciated, too!

That Airoha site is funny, gotta add that to list of Engrish sites. It's so funny that I though it might be a parody.
Amazon has had some good deals lately on the Linksys WRT54G, I got mine for less than $60 shipped. Its an older model, it needed the firmware upgrade, and it didn't come with the wall mounting bracket. It does seem to be faster and have a stronger signal strength than the BEFW11S4 when using an 802.11b card. You might also try TigerDirect's open box deals section. They have interesting stuff from time to time. |

From Airoha's site:
"Wireless Enjoyment Enabler" Sounds like either a person who's allowing their loved one to use wireless, even though it's bad for them, and then make excuses for said loved one's addiction. Or, it sounds like something you'd buy on Adam & Eve. Funny, funny website!

OK, I guess trying Airlink might be a bit risky. So I try to find some other solution, specially for the router/AP part.
Unfortunately the great Amazon deal which sparafina got for WRT54G is not there any more... Now the price is over $100, and out of my budget range for sure. Would have liked to have 802.11g instead of b for future, in spite of that rest of my stuff are still on 802.11b!Therefore I would like to ask you, guys, if there are some good deals for a 802.11g AP/router around, or if this cheapy box is something to have: Netgear MR814 802.11b Wireless 4-Port Cable/DSL Router, which Amazon sells for 49.94 minus mail-in-rebate of $20. Hard to beat that price for a 4 port switch + 802.11b ap/router!
