Anyone get WLANExpert Running?
WLANExpert is a pretty cool tool mentioned in some of the old threads. It works only with Prism II cards. Here is its announcement:
http://lists.bawug.org/pipermail/wir...er/002880.html what's interesting about it is the Antenna Test, which lets you measure VSWR...useful for tuning homebrew antennae. Also, it has an Air Scan function which is similar to the "Site Survey" tool in the Teletronics Prism drivers. I've been trying to get it working w/ my USR2410. Tried USR/Linksys/SMC drivers. The Air Scan function works but the Antenna Test just gives wildly fluctuating VSWR's of 6.93-11.42 and even sometimes negative values. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

wlan 'expert' !
Hi,
yep this tool does work, but i should take the swr readings with a pinch of salt! The site survey function is better performed with the sitecom drivers (prism2) or indeed the samsung magiclan stuff. Out of the two, I'd go for the sitecom under win98 / 2k etc, and the samsung in xp. The only real way to measure SWR is with a proper directional coupler, signal source, and detectors. You can use a wlan card with the prism2 test suite from intersil to give you some spot frequencies on each of the channels in the wlan band. Better still, get one of the 2.4Ghz video tx's from the likes of g1mfg.com - these will give you a tuneable source with about 30mW of power. Making a directional coupler is easy too - see the microwave swr meter article on FRARS. okay I hope these pointers are useful regards, Mr_wlan http://www.frars.org.uk/wlan |
