Assembling rig
I've read the book wardriving as well as reading many many posts here, so I feel I have a rather good idea what I need to get going. My problem right now is I'm not working. I spend my days rehabing a house for a close realitive, and my nights cramming for certfication exams. Having said that, I do have some cash flow by doing some odd jobs here and there for friends, family and neighbors. But what I don't have is a credit card. Ordering anything online is just out of my grasp at the moment. It seems as though all the places to get the "Goodies" nessary to stumble are out of state....or maybe not?
I know I need a new wireless nice, the one built inside my laptop won't cut it. It seems to me everyone agrees the ORiNCO classic gold is one of the best for this hobby. Most retailers in the greater Chicagoland area have never heard of ORiNCO, let alone carry them. CDW on the northside of Chicago carries the ORiNCO line, but the classic gold is a special order so I didn't even bother to call and see if they had a retail outlet. If I can't find this card at a retail outlet around here, my next best option would be to buy a card and modifiy it. I don't mind doing this, so long as the mod is realitivly simple. But once you get to moving around surfice mounted chips and stuff, I get a bit leary. Mind you, I've done it before working on police scanners, I just would rather not have to... I think I might be lucky with a moble antenna's. This company is not to far from me, and do believe they have will calls. http://www.antenex.com/ I'm not going to ask the standard, "Which gps is best" question. Rather, I'd like to hear which ones should I avoid? I'd like to avoid problems like difficulty setting up usb emulator, or doesn't work/play well with Netstumbler, and so on. For the record, I'm leaning towards a Garmin sport style gps, it's priced fairly low at $99 over at Fry's. Right around the corner from them is Galyans that has all the accessores for both Garmin and Magellan in stock. tia, Jaxx |

If you are concerned about the PayPal horror stories (and they are out there) keep a minimum balance in it, and just transfer money into it as needed.
