An Avaya gold is the same as an orinoco gold correct?

Hi - I searched alot but couldn't find anything definitive to this point - so I just wanted to make sure. An Avaya Gold card is the same as an Orinoco Gold card, correct? (128b wep, etc.)

Will there be any problems getting it to accept orinoco drivers and whatnot?

Thanks!

yes, it's functionally identical, however, since it's branded Avaya (which is just a spinoff from lucent), using Avaya's versions of the utilities/drivers is easiest. if you want to use lucent/agere-branded drivers, all you need to do is hack the INF files or override in windows when installing the drivers. there are threads here which teach now to even hack firmware updaters and the client manager, if you really need to go that far.

I already did - and there was a picture of an Avaya silver - but no mention of the gold. Like I said I already searched.

Avaya Gold is the exact same as an Orinoco Gold Classic. The only difference is that Windows will detect it as an Avaya and the labels on the card and the antenna slab will say Avaya.

Identicability?

Can you successfully upload and run the Orinoco Gold firmware on the Avaya Gold card? That would be the true test of identicability.

yes. i have even converted one to a true orinoco gold... pcmcia vendor & device id and all.

furthermore, you can put them into orinoco usb adapters and AP's as is and they work.

How did you actually make your card acting as a true orinoco? I tried to patch it using Alchemy running Windows XP, but I'm not sure if I used the correct driver. Am I right that I have to use *old* original orinoco drivers?
regards,

to changed the branding you need to update the CIS too. too complicated to explain here. read the orinoco silver to gold thread.

if alchemy didn't complain of errors then your gold upgrade worked. try it out on a 128bit-WEP'ed AP.

Don't worry, your card is a true Orinoco, it just has a different name under windows. Inside, both hardware and software, it is an Orinoco. As Mchale famously said before:

"a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet"

With English like that, he should start writing plays

alchemy didn't complain, but if I run the WSU it complains that I haven't got a proper card inserted or driver installed. alchemy still recognizes the card as a roamabout

If alchemy didn't bark at you, you now have a gold card.

Firmware hacking is easy to achieve, you can find guides to it by searching around.

With the firmware upgraded, you can install the latest driver and bingo, it should all fall together.
