Bandpass Filter Question

Does anyone own a Bandpass Filter and notice a remarkable difference in signal? If so can they tell me the difference it made.

I own a bandpass filter, and it does exactly what it was supposed to do.

I once had a band pass, but I had to give it back when I graduated and left high school...

Is it true that a bandpass is more used to improve "LINK" quality, but not the "signal" strength. And that a amp is used to impove the "SIGNAL" strength.

Hey Thorn,

I think you need to collaborate with XeoNoX for your next book. Obviously a lot of us have a screwed up perception of how this stuff works, and have been doing it all wrong.

Well, I'll have to do a lot more research now. My perceptions are all screwed up, too.

XeoNoX,
A bandpass filter is just what its name suggests: It is used to pass just a portion of a band, while filtering out other bands.

An amplifier is also exactly what it name says: It amplifies a signal. In an audio circuit it makes it louder. In this application it increases the RF power.

If you want detailed answers, I would suggest that you do some basic reading on RF. The ARRL site is a good place to start.

ok let me re-phrase that, a amplifier makes the signal strength better along with noise (witch is a bad thing) by amplifying the singal. And the band bass improves the LINK quality by filtering out other RF frequencies and reducing the noise.

A good amplifier would have the ability to reduce the noise as well. Bad/cheap amplifiers do not.

Well, first, I'd spend a couple of dollars on getting a shift key for your keyboard, because apparently, yours is intermittant.

Second, before I'd spend any money on something like that, I think I would try to determine why the signal is dropping off. If the interferance is in the same band that you're operating on, then a bandpass filter ain't gonna do shit.

I just swapped out keyboards. Now back to the subject.

How am I supposed to figure out where the interferance is coming from?
