Hiddy Hoh,
I am new to wireless, Just got my router about 2 weeks ago
Upon talking to my Next door Neighbor he said he would pop for half my cable modem if I could get him connected to the network.
Now our houses are about 120 feet apart and my router is almost LOS to his computer room. now Linksys says I should get 350 feet outdoors, I am barely getting 120feet.

Anyone got any suggestions

have you tried playing with the antenna diversity settings?...
are you using the antennas that came with it?...
which version are you using? (it should say on the bottom of the unit)

btw, you may want to read the isp's term of service to make sure you aren't violating any mention of sharing the service.

What's "almost LOS"? How many walls are you going through? Any other obstructions, such as trees. fences, garden brick walls or windows with "E-Glass"? What is the noise floor in the area? Any 2.4GHz phones or other devices in use nearby?

The 350' figure that Linksys publishes is based on NO obstructions of any type, under ideal RF conditions.

As Blackwave said, carefully check your TOS. Most cable providers prohibit sharing the service. In many states this falls under Theft of Services.

Thanks

Thanks Hadn't thought about it being against terms of service.

The Window to my computer room is about 5 feet out of alignment with his computer room window. Also my window is about 3 foot higher then his

The router is ver 2 802.11 b, its going thru 2 windows niether of which is low e glass.

Now could the problem be that I only have the antenna that is on my wireless pmcia card. I got it to the point where I get a good connection on the outside of his house right up to the window now as soon as I go inside I loose the single entirely.

I just ordered an Orinco gold card, and I made a kinda direction omni directional antenna for the router that really helped the range but still can't get thru the wall. I suspect its the linksys card antenna. Once I get the orinco card and make an antenna for It i think I can do it.

The other option is to buy the Linksys signal booster for 99 bucks from Circuit city
