Belkin Wireless TYPE?
Hi, Anyone know what Belkin use as their cards? what type of cards are they.
Here is a pic of my Belkin wireless DSL Router Guess antenna hacks going to be a full solder job - any recomendations (apart from the obvious .. 'bin it and get a Linksys' etc etc) |

RAMBO, it's bugging me now because I really like this router but need a better signal.
It's fine for the house, all rooms on 2 floors, but I need it to transmit to my neighbours so they can share my DSL link (for a share in the cost to run it I don't know all the details of radio waves, I've read about loads of home brew designs..... but I was amazed when I stuck a curved dish behind one of the dipoles and got a significant boost in signal to my card through a brick wall. Wonder if a cantenna type setup sitting over the dipoles would do anything ... stupid as it sounds. Worse case senario is buy an extra AP only and stick it in the loft with antenna. (Kit here in the UK isn't cheap!) |

hmm, does that card pop out easy? cause if it does, i just might open mine up and take that card out, put it in my lappy and see what happens.. as for the signal, i would think that adding antennas to that shouldn't be too hard.. the wire leads are already on there

Don't know about the card popping out, didn't try.
The top pops off easily, no screws. I know the leads are there, but I just paid 129GBP for this, so I'm a bit cautious about a re-solder. However, would I disconnect one dipole? will the card still be sending signals to the disconnected bit? I read about cards having two built in antennas and picking the best to transmit? another thing
I have this router and the card is your standard WL100(?) eumitcomm based card.
Another thing I've been considering with mine is if you notice near the back edge of this router, it has header stubs for a db9 serial and db25 parallel port. Also, your'll notice chips in the vicinity - I did a quick look up and saw that they're actually serial/parallel io chipsets. The only thing this router doesn't have are headers for the ports and perhaps some analog driving logic (that shouldn't be hard to obtain from the chipset spec sheets). The last thing needed would be software - but since this design is based of of Accton, for the heck of it I downloaded accton firmware (cheetah wireless accesspoint/router) and it worked! That particular router HAS a parallel port and serial port. I suspect even the siemens firmware and perhaps some of the smc ones to work too. So, can I get a print server + modem backup for some work? Perhaps ... any other ideas out there for this? |
