Your question is a lot like asking: What is the best car? There is no single answer. To a large degree it is a matter of personal choice, budget, mode of war driving, terrain, hardware, type of car, density of market, etc.
What are you willing to do? Hang it on a window, put it on the dash, strap it to a seat, position it on the back window, attach it to the roof? Do you want to war drive on one pass (omni directional) or two passes -- down one side of the street and then down the other (directional). Are you mobile (car) or portable (walking). Are you concerned about appearances? Do you care if the "bazooka" style antenna is visible to the public or do you want to be a bit more unobtrusive? The search function this board will turn up just about every conceivable antenna type for just about any conceivable mode of operation. Search on. |

Probably not the cheapest but certainly not unreasonable. Why not make more fun out of this "hobby" and take a crack at building your own. The costs can be a fraction it is a heck of a lot more rewarding.
There are many more homebrew antennas that are as effective. And, there are many more achievable designs than the much touted Pringles. Here, again, search the site and see what you can accomplish with cans, wire, plates, ragtag metal strips and a variety of common hardware items. You've already accomplished the tough part...you've got the pigtail. Now, make the other part of the pig. |

this could be a good war driving antenna
I 'd choose for a helical antenna. Helicals have high gain and are less sensitive to reflections. Build it yourself very cheap. See www.pa0hoo.tk
