Hi,
Can anyone recommend a good gps to go with my setup. On a bit of a budget I am afraid? Rather spend the extra dosh on a good yagi! I have seen the Garmin Etrec mentioned a lot? Is this ok for the job and will it work ok with netstumbler. Thanks |

I have an eTrex Vista(the expensive model of the eTrex series), and its awesome....
Works great with a number of software packages including netstumbler... The ONLY gripe about the eTrex's is that you dont have an option for external antenna, which means you'll have to have it on your dashboard for a proper signal...which you would have to do with ANY gps that didnt have an external antenna... Awesome unit tho, specially for hiking and camping...

Antenna Mods
I have the basic yellow etrex and a satisfied with it. You can catch it on sale in the $79-$99 range. The data and power cables can be costly unless you build your own.
Parts for Building Cables One option for a antenna for the eTrex models is a re-radiating antenna. Build/Adapt Your Own http://home.t-online.de/home/gartrip/antenna.htm Prebuilt Re-Radiating Antennas http://safetracgps.com/reraidiating.htm http://www.tri-m.com/products/tri-m_...s/widegps.html I haven't used one of these antennas but when I have the time I think that I'll try building one. GPS
Thanks for the feedback. I popped to a GPS dealer this morning and picked up one of these for £78.00
http://www.gpsw.co.uk/acatalog/GPS_C...tems___55.html Already tried out with Netstumbler and it works fine! I leave it on the dashboard of the car and it has no problem picking up a signal from the Sats. |
