I am kind of new to wireless, although I have done a fair amount of reading on the subject over the last few months. I currently use Linux (Debian -stable) on all my systems including an older laptop, which I would like to get a PCMCIA type II wireless network card for.
Can anyone recommend the best chipset to go with in Linux, and/or the best network cards, both for wardriving and general use? a bonus would be the ability to use promiscuous mode sniffing, for network testing. The biggest problem I'm having in choosing a card is the manufacturers changing the chipset of their models, it makes it difficult to find a card that will work well. I would also appreciate any links available to a list of working wireless hardware in Linux (I tried google without much success). I apologize if any of this has been posted in a FAQ, I had a look through some of the other forums and this one prior to posting. If I missed something please let me know. Thanks. |

Here's the linux-wlan list, it's pretty comprehensive. Seattle Wireless also has a good hardware comparison, though it's not Linux specific.
