After spending about 3 hours hacking the latest Orinoco drivers with this card with a Hex editor as described in the posting:
http://forums.netstumbler.com/showth...driver+orinoco I am asking for help. This card is a orinoco gold clone like the compaq, buffalo, truemobile etc. I managed to hack the drivers to the point to where they would install and netstumbler would work, but for some reason no matter how much I worked on them, I could not get the card to read a MAC Address into win2000 (ipconfig /all shows all 0's), associate with the wireless lan, or pull down a IP address via DHCP (tried loading a static with no success). I didn't try upgrading to Orinoco firmware because I was worried I might not be able to put it back to "normal" if it didnt work. Has anyone attempted any of this with this card?? The @$%$ card didn't come with drivers (what you expect for $55 delivered, I suppose) and Alvarion's website doesn't have the right driver listed (they show a PC-DS.11 driver, which is missing the "b" and the drivers inside the ZIP are prism2 based, and will not install). Does anyone have the Alvarion, Breezenet drivers for this card they could email or let me FTP? Cheers, Justin ![]() |

For the forum's searchability/info sake....
I called Alvarion's technical support today and surprisingly enough, got to talk to a real live person, leave a message, and had a tech call me back within 45 minutes. The gentleman was very helpful, was nice enough to make a RAR of the CDROM and mail it to me. I loaded the right drivers, and all is well now. The card is defintely a Orinoco Gold, and the Alvarion's (Formerly Breezecom) driver CD has the following drivers: 98MeUSB, DOS, Linux, NT4.0, WIN2k, WIN95, WIN98_ME, WinCE30, WINXP I am running the win2k drivers and they look and smell just like the Latest Orinoco drivers. The card has the jack in the end of it (standard Orinoco one) with a little dust cover on it. These Cards are on http://www.pricewatch.com (search or orinoco gold) for $49 + $6 Shipping. All that came in the package was the card, no drivers, no case, no box. Hope this helps someone who is looking for a good deal! |

most people w/ sniffing s/w are using 6.06 or 6.16, although some have gotten 7.xx f/w to work too.

I have the drivers on a RAR image. If your email client can handle a 20 meg email ill send em over. FYI DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE PC-DS.11 DRIVERS !! If you have installed these drivers, you will have to uninstall them figure out which INF file they are pointing to and delete it before the PC-DS.11b DRIVERS will work. |
