Broadcasting SSID & connection problems
I have a D-Link 614+ AP and a DWL-650+ WIFI card. Everthing works fine...can connect to the AP, browse, etc.
Recently I upgraded the firmware on my AP which now allows me to turn on/off the "broadcast SSID" option. So I turned it off. Using my D-Link 650+ card, I could still connect to my AP by supplying the correct SSID and WEP key via the D-Link client manager. I just also purchased an Avaya Silver card (a lot better for stumbling than my 650+) and got everything working fine (I found three other APs just sitting here in my living room!!). However, now I can't connect to my own AP. Naively thinking, I set the SSID that I was looking for and the WEP key using the Avaya client manager thinking that this would solve the problem. But no. I also cleared the SSID in the Avaya client manager but that did't do anything either. So I finally changed the setting on my AP back to broadcasting the SSID, and sure enough I can now connect via my Avaya Silver. What gives? I'm obviously missing something. What do I need to set differently on my Avaya client manager card to connect to my AP when I don't want to broadcast the SSID? I remember reading something in the forums relating to this but I couldn't find it again. Thanks |

Actually, I'm fairly confident that this isn't an encryption problem. I was able to connect to the AP (with WEP enabled) after turning ON the 'broadcast SSID' option on my AP. It's only when the 'broadcast SSID' option is turned off that I can't seem to connect. Any other ideas? |
