Melco/Buffalo Cards with Netstumbler
I got a Buffalo WLI-PCM-11 to work with netstumbler using the latest Orinoco drivers and client software from
http://www.orinocowireless.com/template.html?section=m52&envelope=90&page=2944 There seems to be some problem with the control panel application (it errors when it tries to load) but apart from that it works fine, both for normal lan use and netstumbling, as long as you run the card diagnostics in the orinoco client software first. The package comes with drivers for 3 cards, I used the PC Card 5v ones, in a dell latitude lm laptop. Hope this helps |

Melco/Orinoco
I didnt explicitly apply the firware upgrade (trying to preserve the card
although i did read in the readme that the firmware upgrade was included in the driver install, because the latest software needed the new firware. Still, the card works fine with both sets of drivers and on my other computers, so no harm done.BTW I didnt mention that i'm using Win98 FE with some SE bits I think (who knows what windows update really does? ![]() |

Hrm. Yah, I tried the Orinocco W2K drivers before and since. The drivers don't recognize the card.
Also, if anyone is curious, I wasn't able to get the firmware update to work under W2K as well. The updater doesn't see a card that it can update. I'm tempted to find a laptop with Win98 on it and try to do a firmware update on the card that way. |

W2K
I just tried the drivers on a new Win2K laptop and it wasn't having any of it, just comes up with the 'error during installation' type of thing and ignores the drivers completely.
Buffalo just released some new drivers, so I dont think there'll be any Netstumbler 0.3 compatible ones released. Here's hopin for 0.4! ![]() |
