built in wireless connection

Hi there, well as you can tell from my post count im a noob. I have only started reading the tip of the ice burg here. My question is im getting this customized Computer with the built in wireless connection. Im not sure if I need to know what kind it is, so I can use netstumbler program, but from the site I cant get any real info on what connection type it is. Is the HP version just a generic wireless connector or do I even need to know? Sorry if this doesnt make sense and thanks for any help.

HP's website is pretty sparse on the details, but if you use WinXP you might be able to use the built-in card with the NDIS driver capabilities of NS.

Of course, I would still recommend considering an Orinoco card since it has the external antenna connector on it.

The fifty dollar option of wifi isnt worth it, I would go with the orinoco also- because:
-you can find an orinoco gold or silver for fifty bucks
-alot more support fot the device
-they are quality items
-They definitly, without a doubt, work with netstumbler!

Yes ... You do need to know what kind it is as not all chipsets or brandnames will work with NS. Unfortunately the link does not say what brand or chipset it is, so that is not of much help.

Running a search at HP for (Lucent +WLAN) turns up about 1000
hits. Some of them helpfull as lots of them mention using internal
WLAN cards under linux with the orinoco.o & orinoco_cs.o mods

Looks quite likely that these cards are rebranded Lucent cards,
like the Dell Tru-Mobile Internal cards.. But before I buy, I'd
call HP Support and get a straight answer..
