Cable & ConnectorTaxonomy?
There are so many cable types out there...RG-8/RG-59/LMR-200 etc...does anyone know where I can get a table of
loss/meter for the various types when used for 2.4GHz? Also, how about connectors? Any diff in loss for the various types e.g. N/TNC/SMA etc? The N connectors are kind of bulky..just wondering if there is any advantage to using them for homebrew stuff. TIA |

cable loss
Cable loss table, per 100ft. (basic guide)
http://hydra.carleton.ca/articles/atten-table.html http://www.timesmicrowave.com/products/commercial/selectguide/atten/ Every connector has loss. There is a guide out there for that too and I will post it once I find where I saved it as a favorite. :-) SMA connectors are much smaller, work to a higher freq and have less loss per but they cost more too. N is the most commonly used ones at 2.4Ghz and are fairly easy to work with. TNC, I never have used them. An average to use for Dbi loss could be this: A 19" pigtail will be < .5dbi loss. Quality LMR 400 with 50'= 3.3dBi average loss Quality LMR 400 with 100'= 6.6dBi average loss 100' of LMR 900 is about 2.9dBi loss Each N connector figure <.5dBi loss OneGuy |
