can anything be done with this?

A friend of mine got his hands on a netgear USB wireless adapter that has an antenna already attached. I'm not a circuitry kinda guy but would it be beneficial to open the existing antenna and attach a ... something else to it? I'm thinking that it would be good to plug that into my laptop's USB and try that for wardriving. Possibilities anyone?

Here's the link to the netgear site

This device is not likely to work with netstumbler. I would be surprised to see any card that attaches to your PC with a USB connection work.

The only way to tell will be to set the thing up on your PC, and try netstumbler with it. If stumbler lets you select the USB thing as a valid device, then you're good to go.

I also would have concerns about the signal quality with that. If netstumbler does work with it, you'll be limited to whatever signal it pulls in on its own, it won't accept any other antenna.

So, I guess what I'm saying is, it will do fine for your own wireless LAN, but it's not likely to work well for wardriving.

USB Attached devices (Forgot which ones) can be used
with NS. This is how many people can run Kismet/Linux
& Win2k at the same time on the same PC... (Using Vmware)

USB does work

I use a Linksys WUSB11 v2.6 802.11b USB adapter and I'm able to use Netstumbler with it. Not great range, but it does work.
