Question Cannot get to ADMIN page of AP

Hi All,

I am having problems getting to the administration page of my accesspoint. I am using the SMC Barricade SMC7004AWBR Router/AP/Switch combo. In the past, I have used http://192.168.123.254 to access the admin page. For some reason I can't access it.

I did a search on the forums and found that it could also be http://192.168.0.254 I tried that and nothing happened.

The odd thing is , I can surf the web fine (since it has all the defaults setup) . I just can't access the admin page.

This AP was my brothers and he said he never edited the admin page. Now that I'm using it, I want to enable WEP, MAC specific security, etc...

Any tips?

Thanks

ttry this
goto a command prompt type ipconfig
it will show u an ip number
the ap is the first 3 octets of your ip and either 1 or 254

so if your ip is 192.168.1.50 the router is most likely to be 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254

also remember that these routers admin pages arent always on port 80 they might be 88 or 8080

Also...

...if the AP assigns IP addresses via DHCP, it probably is set up as the default gateway. So when you run ipconfig (or winipcfg) check the default gateway setting and try accessing the ip address listed there.

Or get an ip scanner such as angry ip scanner and scan your range of ip's (from the ipconfig). If you find the ap and still can't get into it try scanning all the ports on the ap's ip (as mentioned above it may be something other than 80)

Try reconfiguring the IP address of your PC to 192.168.123.1. If that fails, try resetting the thing via the button on the back and then try again.

Ive seen several devices that are factory set with uncommon addresses like 10.1.1.138/255.0.0.0, that can make it a bit tricky to configure if you're not accustomed to working with such addresses.

Thank you ALL for your suggestions. I will post an update when I get home tonight and toy with this AP.

TheSovereign and everyone else,

Thanks so much for the responses - TheSovereign was actually right - it was the first 3 octets of my IP and a 1.

I appreciate the help.
