Cellphone antenna... Thanks for the idea!
I want to say thanks to otaku42, outcast_one and lincomatic. I also want to show off my mad soldering skillz.
I got a cellphone for Christmas then discovered that I couldn't use it at home. I had to drive about 4 miles from home to get a signal. I made a 3-can cantenna but found that mounting it to the dish would require to much work (yeah... I'm that lazy). After much Google'ing I found this 5 year old Netstumbler thread and the antenna design at lincomatic's site. I scaled it to 1.9 ghz and made it out of a cookie tin and a plastic bowl. The fact that I didn't have to buy a N-connector was a major plus. I just slapped the rig together tonight and it works inside the house, pointing towards the nearest tower (and going through 3 walls of the house) so I know it will work great when I get it up on the roof tomorrow. Here's the DN PCS Antenna (my nickname is Duck, btw): Code:
