Compaq WL215 usb
the FAQ says that the compaq WL110 is compatible with the netstumbler but I want to know if the compaq WL215 usb compatible with NS? I'm thinking it should but i'm just making sure before I get one fo my desktop.
Somebody asked this before but nobody answered. Found out on that thread that the compaq pc card is the same as the Lucent orinoco card but relabeled. I just purchased an orinoco gold card for 60 bucks online, only if I did some more reading I could have gotten a compaq wl110 for for only 35 bucks locally instead. If thats true I think compaq cards are the best bang for buck right now. Maybe I should try to cancel my order quick. |

uh..........I know there is different wl110's
I 'think' the usb one shall work I would go for an orinoco, due to the fact that everyone seems to have one, you get more suppoort if the need arises, as for the compaq wl110: I know one is an orinoco and another (later) looks like a d-link, but I am stupid and my feet smell , I try to help, If I am wrong, please correct me, and buy me some socks |

whoa that was a quick one. Just tried to cancel my order I hope they still haven't shipped it yet. I just think that adding 10 bucks more for my 60 bucks for the orinoco gold card, I get the same card plus an additional usb card for my desktop:bang: makes it cost effective for my home networking journey and stumbling experiment.
Can anyone see my point here? or maybe i'm wrong....Last edited by teg9 : 03-09-2003 at 12:40 AM. |

just found out last night that they were selling the older compaq pc card (hnw-100) a bummer which is maybe the 2nd pic that you attached. But anyway found this website that ships a orinoco gold card overnight for 71 bucks figured it was a good deal and I wanted one so bad so I purchased it right away last night and got it today which is the fastest shipment I experienced on the net.
And finally got the netsumbler working. Testdrove it and I found a Boingo AP about 4 miles away from my house and 8 AP's with encryption off. Boingo offered 49 bucks for unlimited access that I'm willing to pay only if I can access it from my house. Any suggestions on what antenna should I consider? My oddometer say its a bout 3.5 miles from my house and just houses in a desert between my house and the Boingo. |
