compusa wireless router

hi i got one of those compusa wireless routers for 20usd a while ago. i flashed a newer firmware on it, but im still hungry for more

i notice that it says the primary firmware for the wireless is 1.1.0 (prism2.5/3.0) and the secondary is 1.2.1.

what type of gain would i get from flashing up these firmwares? is there a way to do it without physically taking ou the card and doing it in my laptop?

Um firmware will not bump your gain on your ap. Get a higher gain antenna to do that. Search the boards youll find a ton of ways to make one or places the sell them.

By "gain" do you "improvement" (general usage) or "increase in Radio Freaquency power" (specific radio term)?

If you mean "improvement": Most firmware updates increase the relability, features, etc.

If you mean "RF power": Usually that is a feature of the expensive "enterprise level" APs. The only "consumer level" AP I know which is capable of having the RF power being changed in firmware is the Linksys WAP11 v1.1.

As to the AP's firmware, the best place to check is the manufacturer's website. They should have a list of improvements and fixes that the latest firmware covers. With most APs the firmware updates are done via a direct HTTP load, TFPT or something similar. No need to remove the intenal card.

yeah i upgraded the ap's firmware to the latest but it only upgrades the software for the ap. the firmware for the pccard inside is still the same
