Conflicting WEP issue (pic included)

I've read the FAQs and searched and have not found an answer. I am running a linksys 11bWAP utilizing WEP. I have one client using a silver orinoco card w/64bit encryption.

I just got a new laptop with built in 802.11g. The wireless card built in is Atheros and I'm using the Atheros client, not XP's wireless utility. It's working fine, I entered my key manually.

Here's the dilemma:

-In my WAP, it says I'm using open key WEP.
-In my orinoco client laptop I have "share key encryption" unchecked.
-However, in my Atheros client.....the only way I could get it to work was to check "shared key." Hell, there was not even an "WEP" option anywhere

What does this mean? Am I using open or shared key WEP????? Does this just mean the Atheros client is labeled incorrectly? can anyone further elaborate? As you can see from the picture, the Athero choices are "WPA, WPA-PSK, 802.1x, pre-shared key, or NONE. I thought 802.1x was the same as WPA. I also wasnt aware there were two types of WPA. I'm assuming one utilizes an open key while the other uses share? Please help.
Regards,

-hm

The default method, Open System Authentication, actually provides no authentication at all. In Open System Authentication, any station is permitted to join the BSS.

If the station proposes Shared Key Authentication, the AP generates a random 128-bit challenge. The station returns the challenge, encrypted with a shared key—a "secret" configured into both the station and AP. The AP decrypts the challenge, using a CRC to verify its integrity. If the decrypted frame matches the original challenge, the station is considered authentic. The challenge/response handshake is repeated in the opposite direction for mutual authentication.
