Anyone know where I can get a RP-TNC male ---> RP-SMA male (I believe it is an RP-SMA, its the connector on a Linksys WMP11 PCI card) converter for a reasonable price? I sent an e-mail to fab-corp to see what they recommend, but haven't received a response from them yet.

Well...
...I am going to have to order a custom pigtail with an RP-TNC male connector on one end and an RP-SMA female connector on the other end. The RP-SMA female connector will be plugging into the back of the WMP-11 card. Just trying to set up net access for my mother who lives about 350' away in another house. There are no other houses between us, but some trees (although I have pretty good line of sight overall). If you need any help, let me know and I'll do what I can.

Thanks Bravespear I can use all the help I can get. I have a 19dbi parabollic grid set up on a 20 ft mast, and I live on the only hill over looking town(hopefully I'm not to high). I have a WAP-11 on my network that I want to run this antennae on, access it thru my the network or wmp-11 and run NS. Thought I'd try running off the WMP-11 first before trying the WAP-11 which I guess I need to run in bridge mode and add addresses manually. Also have an Avaya in my laptop, which does run NS nicely. So what are my goals? Well I got a couple friends out there I want to reach(1 mile). I know whats out there from driving, so if I pick something up from my base station I'll know which way to turn my antennae to get where I want to go. How's that for a mouthful LOL. Lots to learn, but I never seem to do things the easy way. I grabbed the wmp-11 when I was in town hoping it had a RP-TNC connector on it, no dice. Should have checked before leaping, but its WAL-Mart I can take it back. HA. I need to learn how to set all this up so it talks to one another here and out to friends. I getting there, got some of them talking, but more to go! Main thing is getting NS to work with Linksys, seems some people get it to work. Oh well back to searching and reading! I had good service from FAB Corp, got NS discount, and they were fast!!! Good luck I may have to order one too.

I've been doing a lot of reading on wireless networking and from what I understand, to do what you want to do (which is what I also wanted to do) won't work with only one access point. The access point will focus on one antenna or the other. To be able to connect to remote sites *AND* use wireless locally, you will need 2 access points; one for the local stuff and the other for the remote connections (if I am understanding you correctly). The way I am going to try is simply using a 15db parabolic grid antenna and connect directly into the WMP-11 card. I've been trying to get in contact with Fab-corp for several days now and have been unable to get in contact with them. But I will keep trying as everyone here seems to think they are better than sliced bread

Yeah I think your right on my setup. I really don't need for my other computers to hookup wirelessly right now, I can just leave them on the LAN. I just want one to scan with right now.So it sounds like were doing the same thing right now. I can run the WAP setup later. In my case I can just go buy another pig tail from fab RP-SMA to N male. which will hook me up to my 25ft jumper to my antennae.
Hey! just found this, These guys might have what we need, down the bottom of the page, lots of converter/adapter connectors http://www.antennasystems.com/connectors.html They're showing SMA to TNC, maybe they mean RPSMA and RP TNC Worth a phone call (847-584-1000) $8 vs $22 for pig tail. Hope this helps, nice to work with someone on here by the way!!!!! In case that link doesn't work here's their home page. http://www.antennasystems.com/index.htm I'm still looking and reading to get NS to work with Linksys WMP-11, looks like some people are doing it need to e-mail one and find out I guess. Takes forever to search and read on my crappy dialup. Last edited by wyowifi : 03-15-2003 at 08:29 AM. |

I was finally able to get ahold of someone at www.fab-corp.com and had a custom cable built with what I needed (and I was right, for my setup I need (RP-TNC male connector on one end and an RP-SMA female connector on the other). It shipped out on Friday and should have it by Monday (nice that I live in Florida.. UPS ground shipping only takes one business day for them
) I'm wondering.. if you have Windows 2000 (or XP), you might be able to use RRAS on your setup (Routing and Remote Access). It's a little complicated to setup, but it may work on your setup. If you have the WMP11 installed in a Win2K machine, along with an ethernet card, you might be able to setup whe Win2K machine using RRAS to allow other computers on the network to route through that PC. That may only work for Win2K server, though. Now that I think about it, I don't think Win2K Pro has RRAS capabilities inherent. Well, if you wanna go drop $700 on Win2K server ....

glad you got through, I tried 3 times with them, left a message and they returned my call later that day. Ordered my stuff and had it in 3 business days, to Wyoming that's fast! I'm running XP-pro. I think I'll go to the bar cause everything I touch today turns to crap-- LOL. Some days are like that, pretty much have hosed my network, time to walk away! My laptop will still stumble tho so maybe I'll just go cruising! Think I'll order me a PCI that I know works with NS and cable and take the WMP-11 back. If that reaches out there, than I guess I'll spring for another WAP-11/Antennae setup and set up a proper bridge. I hate waiting for new toys or waiting to get them working. Thanks for the Ideas, let me know the outcome of yours!

I'm waiting for the pigtail now. Should be here by Monday. Then I'll go mount the antenna and run the cables sometime during the week, and should have it up and running by next weekend. I'm really interested in getting it working. I love learning new things and getting them working; gives me a sense of accomplishment.
Sorry to hear you're having a bad day. I've had a pretty good week. Got a couple of new WD 200Gb HDD's (with 8MB cache)that I installed in my server (striped for a total of 400Gb's, so I shouldn't be running out of space anytime soon). Had to install a Promise Ultra133TX2 to bypass the 137Gb limitation, though. That was a pain in the rear due to driver issues with Windows 2003 Advanced Server (had to use the Win2K drive cuz the XP driver sucks). The upside is that I can keep my existing 2 HDD's, 1 DVD-ROM and 1 Liteon 48x burner as is. Also upgraded the processor from an Athlon 650 to Athlon 800 for $20. Sorry for rambling.

400 gigs, WOW, yeah thats a whole lot of space. Opening your own Napster site--HA! Well its been a good week on the whole, lots of new toys too! 80 gig USB harddrive for backups,48x cdrw,54x cdrom, couple a games, and 10 PII 266's machines, surplus from the college here($5 apiece) I'll clean them up and resell. Got that tax refund to spend some how!
. Bad days are OK there is always something else to play with around here, I've learned to walk away when it gets bad, have to be that way around computers. Found 5 more AP's last nite, Well enough of my ramblings, time to go shopping. Well with any luck we'll both be up and running by next weekend! |
