Death of a D-Link DWL 650+ card

Alas poor D-link, I abused you well, but when you failed to initialize and I smelt that all familar "burnt electronics" smell I knew you had died.

Aka, my 1st wifi card died so I cracked it open and got some pictures..

I have an AR420W and it works very well with one glaring exception. It has no loopback at all! If you are running a server, you cannot see it using your WAN IP. You must use an internal IP. Sucks, but except for that it works great. Just my $.02.

Wait, you cannot reach a server inside your network from outside?

Sounds like a port forwarding issue.. easily fixed.. my rates are 150.00 an hour

Unfortunately it's not a port forwarding issue. I have worked on it forever. Say I have an HTTP server on port 80. I cannot see it using my WAN IP from inside the network, but I can see it from any other IP (ie. from a friend's box, other people can see it, etc.). If I use the internal IP, such as 192.168.1.10 then I can see the server fine. Strange, I know.

I don't know exactly why this is, but oh well. Other than that I love my AP.

Edit: Oh, and thanks for the offer of help!

FAD - Functioning As Designed

That is Networking 101 by the books.

Your router is aware of the engress/egress ports for your traffic flows. It knows your workstation and server are in the LAN address tables. It also knows you hit the WAN port from the inside. So there is no need to perform NAT. It makes the assumption that you are as network smart as it is, and allows you to go directly.

And I thought it was just me. Can one of the more experienced people please either acknowledge this or slap this down? I'm leaning towards the WTF side because I don't think wireless cards even have a test port or am I wrong?
