Delorme Earthmate GPS Receiver Shizznit

Hey guys,

I purchased:

Delorme Earthmate GPS Receiver (SERIAL)
GST-1 GPS Sentence Translator

Should be comming this week. Now, everything up there, should work fine with Net Stumbler correct? I got the Serial becauase I dont want to mess with USB drivers etc, becuase im going to also use Linux... So I got the Serial one and got the converter to make the sentences into NMEA 2.0. So this setup will work with Net Stumbler, Kismet, and GPSdrive out of the box without messing with a load of settings right?

I guess you'll find out later this week, straight after unpacking it

In all seriousness, it should work. Although, maybe you should consider asking the questions, or searching, before spunking out the cash.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!... sniff.. Well, it should work for you without too much trouble, but you might want to get familiar with minicom and possibly setserial for troubleshooting purposes.

I've yet to see anything in Linux work "right out of the box." there is always at least one thing to configure, and usually a dozen or so. While the configurabilty of Linux down to the bit level is one of it's greatest attractions, it can also drive you nuts if you are trying something new.

Like peekitty said, take a look at minicom and setserial, and brush up on your RS-232 protocols.
