New to wireless, but have read everything I can get my hands on for about 15 hours over the last three days.
At this point I've only one question I've been unable to answer. Is a decrease in performance with WEP enabled based upon specific hardware factors, a function of driver implementation, or a combination of both? I'm only looking at pcmcia cards for now, and some are reviewed to have xx amount decrease in throughput with WEP enabled, but some are reviewed to have no decrease with WEP enabled. That particular example is a Zoom (Prism II based) card. Lincomatic on his page discusses how other cards (USR, SMC, Siemens, Belkin) are the same cards and can use the drivers interchangeably. I couldn't find throughput numbers on other Prism based cards, which raised the question: Would the zoom information apply to the other identical cards? Or only if you used the zoom drivers? I'm not going to base buying decisions off this, I'm just trying to learn as much as I can. Thanks, parnelli Last edited by parnelli : 01-18-2003 at 09:33 PM. |
