Different shaped probes for waveguides?
in a book that i was flipping through in barnes and nobles (I can't remember the name, it may have been wifi toys), it suggested using an upside down shaped cone as apposed to the standard solid wire for the probe. When assembling my waveguide, i ended up using stranded as i couldnt find any solid wire at the time, so i decided to flare out the wires a bit, so it would be in a cone shape.
![]() With this the signal appears to be a bit stronger (sorry no before and after tests saved) This may be due to the fact that it compensates for miscalculations, im not sure. But has anyone else tryed this? Last edited by Tuckie : 08-13-2004 at 10:08 AM. |

I know that some slotted waveguide omnis use a conical feed, very similar to the shape of yours. Trevor Marshall has a good pic on his website. I'm not knowledgeable enough to comment on the theory though.

Flickenger's "WiFi Hacks (O'Reilly) also the cone for the feed in a slotted waveguide. That's the one I've seen in B&N.
