Yagi aerials seem to cost more, but are they as good as a dish type antenna, the reason I ask is that the nearest link I can do is about 14 miles away, the problem is....... it isn't my house. The owner would prefer to have a 1 meter long slim aerial compared to a 1 meter square dish type. Is there any disadvantage to using a yagi of equal gain other than cost?

14 miles is a little long, I doubt you will be able to do this without an amp. This will probably exceed the FCC limits. The performance is about the same, but the parabolic dishes are less expensive.

Your signal may not be able to get there without an amp. Using a high gain antenna with an amp may require a Ham radio license depending on your area,

K, point taken, but I have to give it a go as I have no other option, the WISP reckons it should work, but they only supply dishes and as I my house does not have LOS, I am a bit limited and will have to buy my own. Adds to the cost, but at least I can get better that 64K if it works
. Will spend the cash and take the chance. |

Well, if they say it will work and it doesn't, its their problem. They usually have very good equiptment. Hope it works out for you.
