Dlink 614+ as a standalone ap (well almost)
Ok well I was having many problems with my 614+ keeping a link with my isp using pppoe (would time out even when set to never time out it would reconnect right away but all downloads would stop and it was a pain in the butt). So I switched over to freesco for my firewall/router. I then wanted to use my 614+ as my ap because it has a stronger signal than my 900. My dilema was getting the internet from the wired side (plugged in my router into one of the 4 ports) to the wireless side. So I setup a static ip in my routers range for my wan connection and made a small cat5 to jump from port 1 to the wan port. Works like a charm. The only thing though is that it doesn't rebroadcast dhcp request onto the wired side of the switch so I'm probably going to have to turn on the dhcp server on the 614+. But by setting my alternate configuration to an ip in the routers ip range it works like a million bucks.
If I could only find a way so that it would rebroadcast dhcp requests I would be one very happy person. Cheers. Last edited by gmiller220 : 09-11-2003 at 08:41 AM. |
