Edimax Pcmcia External Antenna Mod!
Well i purchased this Edimax PCMCIA wireless card got it for pretty cheap and it has an internal antenna i would like to put an external antenna jack on it as it seems pretty good at picking up access points (better than a Cisco Aironet 350 card) and since it didnt cost much i dont care if i break it.
i took the cover off the card and i find theres an A1 and A2 on the board near the antenna im pretty sure these are used for a external jack its just that the manufactures hadnt put one on. Could anyone please give me any advice . i have looked around for instuction on modding cards and cant find any for this one but most of the mods i seen say u need to install 2x 150PF surface mount capacitors anyone good at electronics here? anyway here is a close up of what im talking about |

Ever hear of optimizing images for upload? Resolution of 600 is a bit of overkill (72 max for this kind of stuff). Fuckin Hellen Keller could see that!
PS I expect some of the dialup folks will like it! Last edited by wrzwaldo : 05-13-2004 at 10:48 PM. |

<flame suit on>
Why the f*k does it seem like a lot of people have bugs up their *sses on this board lately? Are there too many cicadas out or something? Can't we give people a break? It's getting extremely tedious reading all the %&*()#$ flames...even more so than reading n00b posts. Have any of you flamers realized that all the flames you post are reducing the SNR of the posts worse than the few n00b posts? How about restoring a bit of decorum around here and being a little more tolerant? </flame suit off> mish, what's the FCC ID on that board? i'll try to dig up the schematic. it's hard to see the circuit w/ the smaller image. also, maybe you can either post a *link* to the full res photo or crop it in tighter and upload it again in a new post.

the schematic is here:
https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/f...ive_or_pdf=pdf unfortunately it doesn't show A1 and A2, but it shows the existing antenna connections. A1 & A2 do look a lot like pads for jacks...big grounds and a small pad for the signal. i'm too busy w/ my work right now. see if you can find C97 in the schematic.

Well I suspect had you of seen the first go 'round of the attached image you may have seen my displeasure. I was able to create a copy of the same image at the same dimensions that was only 78K vs the 300+ that was attached. I had it attached to one of my posts that I gladly removed after said image was sized to a little friendlier size. If folks wouldn't be so lazy when posting I suspect there would be fewer flames. PS I don't consider my post (original) a flame. The Hellen Keller part was humor (give it a try sometime). ![]() Last edited by wrzwaldo : 05-14-2004 at 07:05 AM. |

Here's a good thread to read:
There's loads of threads about that show what people have done to their cards. The best of these, although nothing actually got hacked, is this one:
http://forums.netstumbler.com/showthread.php?t=10666 There's some good information there that I don't think I've read elsewhere. Its not the answer, I admit, but things to bear in mind when you hack your card.
