Enterasys Roamabout CSIBD-AA-128 Capabilities

I apologize in advance for this - I'm sure the answer is somewhere, but I have spent most of this afternoon and a good portion of the evening on what should be a simple quest. I have a Enterasys Roamabout CSIBD-AA-128 with FCC ID IMRWLPCE24H that is probably 10 years old. I am trying to determine if this card is capable of supporting WPA. I have the latest driver "package" from Enterasys, which is version 7.86. The release notes indicate support for WPA, but the RoamAbout Client Manager indicates the card itself is only capable of WEP-128. This seems like a simple question to me: is the card capable of WPA, or is there a firmware upgrade to make it so. I have not found the answer yet! I get the impression that I have a "good" card for stumbling and would really appreciate some insight. There seem to be conflicting results in the Netstumbler forums - some indicate no problem, some indicate no success! I have used this card for stumbling, and it seems to work okay. Since it is my only card, and I can find no other reason to replace it, I would really like to use it at home as well, in a more secure mode. I guess the recent news of WEP being cracked in less than two minutes has me spooked! I would really appreciate any advice anyone could provide. Thanks so much!

The access point, not the card, should be your focus of concern as to what supports WPA.

Not to mention that all WPA isn't created equal.

The AP is a recent (1 year?) Linksys WAP54G, and it definitely supports WPA. I re-configured both Card and AP for WPA today, and the card would connect, then drop, connect, then drop. Couldn't find anything in the event log or the AP's log to indicate what the problem was. I could try wiping everything out and starting over. It's possible I fat-fingered something.

That's typical of a cross brand incompatibility of WPA.

The card you have is a rebranded Lucent/Agere/Proxim ORiNOCO Classic Gold card.
In order for you to use WPA with it, you need Agere's last drivers (might be that the Enterasys drivers you are using is the same version) and not use the card supplied CM, but use Windows Zero Configuration as the CM. This rules out WPA with windows based machines pre XP SP2, unless you invest in a thirdparty applicant.
Furthermore you need to be sure your WPA capable accesspoint is setup to use TKIP with WPA and not AES/CCMP (aka WPA2).

None of the ETS drivers will support WPA. Save that card for running NS and get a newer card to use WPA.
