Question External Pcmcia Adapter

So I have a laptop and it only has one pcmcia slot, but to get full stumbling perfection and compatability I would like to run 2 pcmcia cards (orinoco and cisco 350) I have spent alot of time looking for an adapter either USB or Firewire but everything that I have found is for smart cards or a combo setup for pcmcia memory only...

I know Lucent makes an External USB Orinoco Gold card that is basically a housing for a pcmcia card with the usb adapter. I just want the adapter =) I already have the card

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I think I might...

If you (like most modern laptops do) have a built in LAN card you (please note, this might not be true) can get an RJ45 - wireless adapter, into which you place your own card.

It's expensive but if that's what you want.

Sorry, but I don't have an URL for such a device, any ideas anyone?

I havent seen anything like that, it gives me a different avenue to persue though... I was hoping for usb or firewire but hey anything to get that x-tra pcmcia slot...

see older laptops always used to have 2 pcmcia slots, what happend? I guess its like motherboards now-a-days, audio/video/network/modem all built onboard hey the customer should only need 2 pci slots right? bleh

I found this:

Don't ask about compatibility though, I don't have a clue!

If you want to be able to use the Orinoco card to stumble you will need to pick up the Orinoco USB client. It never hurts to have a second card or one to give to a friend.

You may also be able to pick up just the adapter from someone that has taken apart the USB client to get the PCMCIA card out of it. I saw 2 auctions on EBAY for the USB-to-PCMCIA portion of the Orinoco client adapter.

Nice, thats what I was looking for, since I already have the Orinoco card =) now I just wonder if the adapter will get pissed off if I put a gold card into it as it was made for silver... I wonder how linux will take to it as well - has anyone worked with the external usb orinoco and linux yet?

For fun you may want to post this query in the Unix forum :

don't worry about that. i have a Gold USB adapter. I've put in Silver Orinoco and even Avaya Silver cards in it and the (Windows) drivers can't tell the diff. should be the same w/ linux since the USB interface effectively hides everything from the OS. don't know anything about linux support for USB orinoco, though.
