I am wanting to get in the netstumbling scene mabey...
I guess my first question is, what hardware do I need to gain access to my local WIFI isp? Supposedly he has like a 5 mile broadcast range I think, and I live like 200 yards from his WIFI tower. Or is it even possible for me to access his Internet Services? Thanks, Brian P.S. Sorry if I posted in the wrong forum for this question. ![]() |

I agree.
Your best bet is to contact the WISP administrator and ask what equipment they recommend and how to sign up for their service.

WISPs don't just blast out 802.11a/b/g, they're usually offering point to point links that work like a wireless cable/dsl/t1 type line. You still need the proper reception antenna equipment & router.
On the other hand there are those local free wireless providers that DO have large 802.11b systems that cover a few city blocks that you might look up. |

I actually used NS to research the wisp I subscribe to. It was great for testing signal strength and getting the antenna lined up. Then I just called the ISP and set up service. Saved me a few hundred dollars. It's a good research/survey tool. |
