Flashing a ORiNOCO Firmware on a OEMCard by ELSA ?

Hello Guys,
i have a simple question regarding flashing a orignial ORiNOCO Firmware to my ELSA Vianect MC-11 which is a Orinoco Silver OEM Card. Sorry for my bad English becaus i´m from Germany. I want to flash the orinoco Firmware because ELSA has just gone bankrupt and i want to use new driver in future.

Can someone help me if it´s possible to use the orinoco firmware and drivers whith my oem card. and how does it work.

Thanks in Advance,
MauiBS

It is possible to use Orinoco firmware/drivers. However since the hardware ID on the card is diffrent you will need to hack the firmware/drivers to match the hardware id in order to use them.

Generic Agere drivers will work on any Orinoco based card which can be downloaded from microsoft windows update.

Flashing an ELSA card with orinoco firmware is possible. Here is how:

#### Begin Quote Anthony Chong ######

Here is the way to do it in case you are interested. I have it works
in my XP.

1. Download the Orinoco driver first. (WLWALL74.exe)
ftp://ftp.orinocowireless.com/pub/s...rs/wlwall74.exe

2. Find out what is the name of your Buffalo card in the registry. Do
a search with a string "Buffalo" using regedit.exe. You may find the
string something like "BUFFALO-WLI-PCM-L11G-UK-1ED7"

3. Extract WLWALL74.exe into a temp directory.

4. Modify one of the extracted file WLLUC48.inf. Locate the section
[Buffalo Technologies]. Replace the section like the following:
[Buffalo Technologies]
%wlbuf48_LT1.DeviceDesc% = wlluc48.Install,
PCMCIA\BUFFALO-WLI-PCM-L11G-UK-1ED7

5. Save the modified WLLUC48.inf file.

6. You can now upgrade your driver. Buffalo can now use Orinoco
driver.

7. To change Buffalo firmware, first download Orinco firmware.
(WSU_810.exe)
ftp://ftp.orinocowireless.com/pub/s...002/WSU_810.exe

8. Extract WSU_810.exe into a temp directory. A file WSU10810.exe will
be extracted.

9. Use a hex editor and open up WSU10810.exe. Search a string
"Lucent_Technologies-WaveLAN/IEEE-911F". Then replace this string with
your Buffalo id, assuming it is "BUFFALO-WLI-PCM-L11G-UK-1ED7". Since
this string is shorter than the original one, you need to patch the
rest of the characters with NULL (0) values.

10. Save the file WSU10810.exe and run it. The software can now find
your Buffalo card.

11. The above steps cannot change Buffalo PCMCIA identity. Other
programs from Orinoco like Client Manager also requires modification.
This can be done like step 9 above.

Although I haven't tried it with other brands, I believe it works with
other brands like Alcatel, Avaya, Compaq, Dell, Elsa, Enterasys, IBM,
Legend, Sony, Toshiba, NEC, Samsung and etc. I found their names
listed in the WLLUC48.inf.

Good Luck.

Let me know if it works,
