Flat Pannel Aerials

Hi,

I am currently working on a Power over Ethernet project at home. I have never built an aerial and want a flat pannel aerial to be attached on the box that I have. This is for a frequency of 2.4GHz. Distance is not that much of an issue at the moment, also I would like it to be semi-directional if at all possible. Would any body be able to help me out or give me some advice on creating an aerial that would suit my needs?

Regards,

Oliver Neighbour

Have you checked out all the information provided in the Antennas FAQ on this forum? Everything from Pringles cantennas to antenna theory to RF calculus. I'll even provide you a linky thing to get you started. Have fun exploring and learning!

What does one have to do with the other?

PoE

Well the wireless access point is incorporated in the box that I have built, which is going to sit at the top of my house. The aerial is just to connected to it. Its just a little bit of an experiment thats all.

Why does it need to be PoE? Have you researched what is all involved in doing PoE? do yo know your limitations?

Yeah, apparently Cat 5 can only handle about 12 amps

No, that's not right, it's the CAT# x # of Conductors.

Therefore it's 5 x 8 = 40amps.

Flat Panel Aerials

For POE they pair up the blue and blue/white for positive DC and brown and white/brown for negitive DC. They pair up the wires because of the voltage drop on longer cables.
My advise for making a Flat Panel Aerial is do not attemp it unless you are an engineer with the right tools for designing pc boards and know somthing about RF circuit design. A Flat Pannel Aerial is a complicated design and most of the larger Flat Panel Aerials contain an array of smaller Aerials acting as one large Aerial.

In theory it could handle 12 amps...course you would need to use ALL 8 wires for the positive, and another segment of cat 5 and all of its 8 wires for the negative.

It should handle it for a few minutes before meltdown.

the spec however states 44-56 VDC with up to 350mA so... let em fry his antenna
