While trying to update my wireless firmware from my Toshiba e740 i found out interesting behaviour... It my first come totally useless but might help those ppl i heard of in horror storry that keep pressing Their Rescan button from their client manager...
Ok first Both the firmware update and the driver update seem to have fail(basing myself on the fact the new client manager bug and that the old one that still work well indicate the old firmware and driver version...). But the good news is: Even if the new client manager will not work properly to configurate the card (WEP. Speed or any information about SSID or Channel you want to specify) it will still be able to scan for AP... And the scan for the AP is automaticly done! No more need to click on that nasty Rescan button... But of course this would be too nice alwredy so now it's time to tell you the limitation... Once you find you first AP it will try to stick to it or to something that look like it, if you quit the AP zone and enter a other AP zone it will only detect the AP if it had the same SSID or if it had the same Name... Here is the behavure i seen while testing( up to now all the test have been done on my own AP and i only have 1 ): I changed my channel from 6 to 11 and the client manager have been able to find the network I changed my ssid and the client manager have been able to find the network I changed both at the same time and the client manager have not been able to find the network Then I shutted down my AP and i went back to my original client manager and i did a renew of course it failed to find a network but it somewhat released the lease Then i went back to the new client manager and when i restarted the AP it detected the previous change of both SSID and Channel... Oh yea and 1 last thing... If you try to modify setting with the new client manager, your wireless card will stop working properly until your reboot... So you really have to keep using the old one to do any modification... Oh and yea a other nice feature is that it will show continiously a Link Quality bar with a % and also a Signel Stength bar... Don't try this at home here is the url of where i took the driver http://www.intersil.com/design/prism...np-lic-win.asp Have Fun |
