Ok update on new router and card.
just some preliminary testing.. moved a nice 650 meg file from a wired server to laptop in about 4 minutes then reversed it and took 5. I was sitting in the same room as router at about a distance of about 20 feet (yeah I know, not a big deal) but I was vegging out and decided to test it some)

Update on this router and a NEW security feature to keep those THIEVIN BASTARDS OUT.
This router has the normal securities aka mac filters, wep/wpa wpa 2 (see a previous post about its bells and whistles) But it also has a feature that will DENY access to the router's admin page if you are ON wireless. I tested it and you cannot access the WAP's admin page via the wlan if you have the feature turned on. so what is the point if you have Mac filters on and keeping that heathen on the street off your wifi? You will force IT to either spoof a MAC to gain access to use the AP which is not difficult but can gen up other issues, and even if IT does, the router will still deny him access to the admin page, thus frustrating IT further. Not to mention if your kids use wifi only, keeps them from tinkering with the settings YOU set up.

Update on Router range:
I did a test with Ministumbler on my Ipaq to get a relative range and SNR yesterday Here is the basics Router sits on a shelf about 6.5 feet up, near an exterior wall, and about 4 feet from overhead light (incandesent) Wall is on the back side of house, there is about 24 feet to the exterior wall on front side of house where double driveway and aluminum carport is out front. Out front I was able to recieve signal broadcast (WPA'ed) at about 200 feet further than old Dlink 614. Now for the GOOD information. LOS is extremely bad there... besides the exterior wall that sits next to the router, there is a nice pecan tree, the other corner of the house (the house is shaped like an "L") and the 2 car garage behind that end of the house (there is a 12 foot alleyway between house and garage) Currently I have a small camper trailer, aluminum in skin out in my back yard, behind the other side of the other end of house, and get this, house power comes in from a pole that is in the corner of the yard, the wires are aerial pathed between the trailer and the house. I was inside the trailer, using stock antenna and getting a nice 11 mbit connection.. I know I have said I will post screen shots of the routers info, but in an earlier post I linked the pdf for that. what I will do is get some photo's of where things are in reference to this verbal description

UPDATE on this router. (yes the thread is a tad old but this info is TECHNICAL in nature)
Discovered that this model AR525w does not like being mated up to a broadband modem with a 10 mbit WAN connection. Some googling uncovered a fix of putting a nice 10/100 switch between it and the broadband modem which I will do when get home and will report my findings. What is basically happening is the router starts acting sluggish, as in speeds die out to the point its worse than a dialup and even accessing the router's admin page over the wired connection takes 2-3 minutes ( I have email to Airlink101's tech team about this and will repost when I get something) Oddly enough if I reboot router, for about 1 hour or less speeds are good. And before you mention pr0n downloading, I did turn those off before I checked this out.

Well the other option I have is to trade out my old Toshiba 1100 cable modem for one of the newer AMbit's that TW uses in my area. Problem is that my particular model has a -18 dbm SNR sensitivity whereas the newer ones are -12 (found this out when I did some cable install contract work) Ok.. put a lil auto sensing 5 port switch between cable modem and Airlink router.. all is NOT well ![]()

Basically here is whats going on. I did a firmware upgrade on the router (big mistake) and I like to run Torrents from time to time.. That causes the router to slow down to a crawl. yet my Dlink 604 and 614+ handle it fine
I will be doing some testing over the weekend to see if running torrents is in fact what causes the router to go wacko. If it is the case what I might do is try to turn the router into a pure 4 port gateway with AP in it so I can connect it behind the 604, let the 604 handle all the dhcp and router functions, and the airlink be a 4 port switch with a MIMO AP on it. The manual (newbies pay attention here to the fact that I am a regular on here and fairly seasoned when it comes to PC's and I STILL read manuals because they are your best source of info) is kind of vague on this so I will be tinkering on it and taking notes.

Update on my router issue: I tried placing a switch between my old cable modem with the 10 mbit ether and the Ar525w router from Airlink. Did not do as well as I would like.
Since I had 3 other routers (dlink 604 and 614) I hooked the 604 up behind the modem, turned off the DHCP in the airlink which turned it into a wireless MIMO switch. I had to plug the uplink from the dlink into one of the switch ports but if I need more I can add more switches from there. All DHCP is handled from the dlink. I can however set the Airlink as a backup DHCP and set its IP range to match that of the dlink. Both wired and wireless work well now. I have not tested any security features in the Airlink like Mac Filtering and internet access time limits etc, including blocking URLs, but I suspect it will work fine for any pc linking thru it.
