Help with Identifying my card

I have just recieved my OriNOCO Gold card. The dealer said that it was the classic gold card compatible with linux.

Have spent the last few hours going through the forum, I must admit I am a bit overwhelmed with the amount of information on identifying this card. Somewhere it says that if it has the square rubber cover at the back for the antenna then it is the correct one. Now I am not sure at all what I have. Maybe some could help me Identify my card.

- It came in an box with a woman jumping in the air
- It is a purple card with just the OriNOCO logo
- At the back of the card it says Copyright Agere Systems
- The drivers CD says Copyright Proxim
- The antenna cover is a round rubber pad.

Drivers?

The card installed itself on XP without having to install any drivers.
The drivers were from 2001 so I installed the drivers from the Proxim CD. Netstumber now has two entries

OriNOCO PC CARD (5 Volt) OriNOCO
OriNOCO PC CARD (5 Volt) NDIS 5.1

Does anyone have any advice or can tell me if I have the right card.

To be sure:
What is the FCC ID Number?

Also, what is the ORiNOCO Model Number?

The FCC number has been consistant for most of the "Classic Gold" cards since the beginning. The model number has been less constistant, but sometimes is the same.

The FCC ID should be:

IMRWLPCE24H

You see it?

Use whatever drivers work, try the orinoco ones first, they should work good. If not, fall back to the (crappy) NDIS

The FCC ID is needed.

The supplied drivers should be OK.

NS will not see an AP with the SSID disabled. It doesn't function that way. You can re-install 1000 times and it won't change.

hmm I thought that was one of the strongest features in NS. I am not so sure, or maybe it is a bug. I have tried the following
Using a Linksys WPC54G the SSID is shown in NS eventhough the APs is set to broadcast SSID - dissable. It could be becuase I have my SSID setup in the Wireless connection manager for XP.
It does not allways detect the SSID. Sometimes closing NS and opening it again makes it work

No. NS has never done this, as it is an "active" scanning program. kismet (Linux) is a "passive" and will detect an AP with the SSID broadcast turned off.

Yes. To use NS, turn off the XP connection manager and use an SSID of "ANY".

NS will pick up a non-boraodcast SSID IF the laptop has the same SSID. All it is really telling you then, it that it sees it's own SSID. Which will not do you any good unless every AP you stumble has the same SSID.

10 AP's in the area? You mean like around the house? Why would you not want to drive anywhere?

sounds like he wanted to find AP's with "Free internet access"
and since there are 10 near his house he doesn't need to go out
and wardrive..

Although I could be wrong..
