Help please =)

Hey!

I have the following card:

belkin:
http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=136500

Do I need an antenna, how big is the difference? If so, which one?

AND, can someone give me several options on which gps devices to get. They don't need a display, I remember seing one for like $99 which was just a small box, connecting to the USB.

Thanks // Peter

Nope.. Sorry Your beyond help.....

1. Forget the Belkin Get an Orinoco Gold (not From Proxim)
but one of the old "Classic Gold" cards, there pretty cheap on Ebay. This will also save you from comming back here with the
"Why isn't my card working with NS?" questions.
2. Looking at the belkin site, nowhere did it say it had an Ext.
Antt. Jack. Hint: Orinoco cards do...
3. As for GPS, dont screw around with the USB stuff, you might
get it to work, you might have tons of problems. Save your $$
and get a real (As in Serial) GPS. Try something simple like the
Garmin Etrex line..
4. If you get a card with an antt. jack you will also want a 5dbi
magmount Omni Antt. Checkout www.fab-corp.com for all your
stumbling needs..

Why say no to proxim? I just got a a/b/g world card (gold) and its great for wifi access, not for stumbling however. Not external antenna. I got it for my girlfriend who at work has a b/g netowrk and at school has a A network. She loves it. Should I get a refund and get another a/b/g card?

This is not a general WiFi forum, all advice/opinions/rants are within the context of Netstumbler which currently supports only cards with Hermes chipsets. Any other card is not supported, even though it may work with NDIS drivers.

Is the girlfriend going to go stumbling with Netstumbler? If she is, then a Hermes based card would be best for her. If not, then whatever works for her is fine.

thanks.

btw, are there any other forums around except this one? I have understood that questions regarding accessing AP's without permission is more than frowned upon here, so I don't want to upset anyone.

thanks / peter

Let me see if I have this right: You understand we frown on it, but you still want us to direct you to a forum where they will discuss it with you?

Please don a flameproof Nomex suit before replying. (On the otherhand, you could just search the web.)

You don't see anything wrong with that... Would you ask the police for detailed instructions on robbing the local bank? Never mind, don't answer.

The WWW is full of sites devoted to cracking. Why don't you just search, and we'll leave it at that.

As to what you claimed in the other thread, I'd already answered and given you some information there.

lol

no asking the police for what bank to rob would be asking him to participate in illegal activity. This however is not. BIG difference. Anyways, thank's for your answers in the other thread, they were very helpful. I am looking forward to my first stumble as soon as I get all the gear.

I have a proxim gold 802.11b/g card and it works fine with netstumbler.
It actually appears to pick up more than my older orinoco cards.
