Help with signal dropping
I have a Belkin F5D7130 AP setup in my house. Everything is working fine with connection and internet access. Using WEP, and have several different computers/cards using the WiFi. I am having an issue where the signal just dissapears sporatically for just a blip, but enough to drop connections. I believe it is interference related, so this weekend I replaced the 2.4ghz phones in the house, and I purchased and installed another AP. The new AP is the same model Belkin, as I intended to use it in extender mode. That wasn't working to well so I plugged it into the ethernet and now have 2 AP's, one in the house and the other in my office above detached garage.
I've also tried all different channels with no resolution. The problem became very apparent when a couple weeks ago I purchased wireless adapters for both of our Xbox's and keep getting dropped out of online games. I'm in a suburban neighborhood with 1 acre lots, so the distance between houses is pretty good. I do pickup a neighbors WiFi, but only occasionally. Any ideas how to fix this problem? Is there a AP that would work better or has less problems with interference? Maybe a better AP and upgraded antena? I can take the new Belkin back and get something else if it will make a difference. |

The Xbox wireless adaptors I believe are also on 2.4ghz, so is your microwave. Your two AP's, are they on different channels, like on 3 and 9? I know you said you changed them around, but are they on their own channel? They should be. Use NS to find channels are aren't being used in your area and then set your AP's to those channels. And whatever you do, stay away from Channel 6.

I should have specified Xbox WiFi adapters, I have the Dlink adapters to get the Xbox's online. Those connections are dropping in the middle of games.
The sad thing is one of my laptops and one of the Xbox's are only 20' from the AP. Any experience with the Belkin AP's, is there anything out there that has better signal or less prone to interference? |

Yes, they are on different channels, 1 and 11. My neighbors AP is on 6. I was running net stumbler last night, and one of my AP's signal was showing a complete signal drop on the the graph, very short, but signal did dissapear every so often. The other one was fine during this particular period. |

Do you have any other 2.4ghz devices in your home, phones, baby monitors, radar dishes? Are the Xbox adaptors connecting to your AP's, or just to each other? BTW, setting both AP's to the same channel would be completely wrong in a multiple AP setup at the same location, they would interfere with each other then. That's why I asked before about your AP's on different channels. The further the seperation in channels the better.
