Here's a neat antenna.

This might be fun to try on my NMO mount.

That looks like a slightly less expensive version of Antenex's Phantom series. I'm using Hyperlink's 5dBi NMO offering at the moment.

I'm preparing to update all my vehicle's antennas to NMOs, from a bastardized variety of magnetic and glass mounts. I've got one of those SMC EliteConnect cards, so the plan is to use both antenna jacks on the card.

Then there's the 2m, 10m, 70cm, and PCS antennas too.

I have the OEM variety of the SMC card, but I rarely use it because it dies after about twenty minutes in Kismet. My NMO antenna is connected directly to a USB adapter via a short section of coax, no connectors, low loss.

As an experiment in overkill, I ran the Xi-325 cabled to a pair of 6dBi panels on the dashboard canted outwards about 20 degrees from dead ahead. Coupled with an omni on the USB adapter and a second card for the A band, the results were insane.

Interesting info on the SMC card crash. I've nothing by good luck with mine so far.

Out here, I've got more problems with Orinoco card crashes (Error 0005 - described here: NS 0.4 - Works for long time then Error 0004. so I really haven't had much choice but to switch hardware. There are a really high number of shit access points which predicably sink the card. Rebooting became too much of a frequent pain in the ass.

Admittedly, I haven't tried NS on the card since I've been more interested in Linux as of recent.
