Hermes chipset and Proxim
Is the Proxim ORiNOCO 11b Client PC Card the same as the Classic ORiNOCO 11b Client PC Card (does it use the Hermes chipset)? I am asking because I have seen conflicting reports on compatibility with NS.

I get the idea it might not work. So what shold I do. I need one a something that:
1. I can get a PCI adapter for (I am just going to put PC in my car because I don't have a laptop). 2. Works with NS. 3. Gives me dB / noise / etc readings (optional but would like it). |

The Proxim 8410-WD will work with NS. You can use an adaptor, but some people have had problems with them. Using this card, you will get signal readings (unless you have to use the NDIS drivers to make the card work in NS because of the adaptor. If you get one of the RICOH chipset adaptors, you shouldn't have a problem. Fab-corp has them (under proxim orinoco). You can get a 7% discount if you are a member of these forums too. Just put that under the comments section when you order.

So all NS supported cards have a Hermes chipset in them but not all cards with Hermes chipsets work. Yet, sometimes other cards that are completely unsupported and do not have a Hermes chipset work with the NDIS driver.
