So you want to add an Ext. Anttena to your new "Puter"....
Lesson 1: Centrino Wi-fi is not compatible "Read Not Supported" by NS or any other sniffing/scanning SW for that matter. Lesson 2: It maybe possible to add an Ext. Connector but it will require a lot of modification (Read "Dremeling the Laptop case") which will totall screw your warrenty. If you want a Wi-Fi card that will work with NS 100% of the time without problems then get a "Classic-Lucent Gold" card off EBAY. They also have a Ext. Connector, without any mods...

NS does work with my intel wifi card. It sometimes closes itself and has hissy fits, but when it does work, it works fine. I don't have intels utiliti installed (that doesn't work at all :P) so maybe dats why netstumbler works. I get full functionality.
As for dremeling my laptop and stuff, i'm all for it. Have you seen my desktops? :P Are there any pics anywhere so i know which wires to attach? BTW anyone know if these pringles boosters help cel phones too?!? Last edited by HexiumVII : 09-28-2003 at 05:07 PM. |

BTW, a "pringles" is acually not the best antenna, for several different reasons. There are many better designs out there. Search and read these forums, and STW.

I must be missing the logic here somewhere....
Why would you want to hack your laptop case, most likely have to solder in a pigtail, and have a fairly fragil setup when you can just buy a supported PC card for 50 bucks that has an ext ant port on it?? ![]() |

I'll do it for $50
Hey There,
Just send me your new laptop, and I'll put the connector in there for $50, ofcuorse you pay shipping both ways and I can't be held liable if it get's lost in the mail... hehehehehe If you don't mind the warranty issues, then just start taking your laptop apart in a static-free room ofyour house, find the WiFi antenna area and figure a way to get a connctor on there. Perhaps you wil want to run some super cable inside the laptop to a better place for the connector though, depending on where the card actually is at. Anyway, yeah, don't worry about the Pringles cantenna...it is a kinda sucky one,..just a cool idea that got a lot of people off their butt and into mkaing antennas... if you want to make a decent small antenna I would suggest a 5 element yagi. I'll be posting the dimensions somewhere on here later... I just figured it out last night. 7dB+ gain, 4.25" long x 3" wide x 8mm thick, 50 degrees field. There ya go. |
